“They Have Taken Ownership of What Is Going On”

Through partnership with Resonate Global Mission and Oasis International, Chalmers released Helping Without Hurting in Africa in 2021. Coauthors Anthony Sytsma and Jonny Kabiswa Kyazze crafted a unique training manual for ministry leaders walking alongside those in material poverty across the African continent. Based on the principles of When Helping Hurts, this resource trains leaders to proclaim the gospel in both word and deed, helping shift mind-sets and giving tools to apply biblical principles to care wisely and compassionately for people in material poverty without unintentionally doing harm.

Anthony and Jonny have conducted many direct trainings for ministry leaders in Uganda, Kenya, Eswatina, Liberia and beyond, and the training manual is currently being translated into other languages as well. Resonate recently shared this video with Pastor Job in Uganda, who has participated in Helping Without Hurting in Africa training and shifted his approach to ministry in his church and community as a result.
