People who’ve read When Helping Hurts have often reached out to us to ask, “What’s next?” or tell us “We’re in. Where do we start?” We’ve answered in different ways—in-depth training, a weekly blog, a video library, online courses.
A committed group of poverty-fighting practitioners engaged deeply with these tools, becoming program lead trainers or even Chalmers Ambassadors, leading others into a bigger vision of kingdom ministry.
But we always knew we could go deeper. The longer we walked with folks like Jason who leads a rescue mission, or Lori who oversees a church benevolence program, or Deanna who started a training program in her city, we heard what they wanted most.
They don’t just want to do something—many of them have been doing too much for too long. They want to belong to something bigger than themselves. They want to feel seen, connected, and supported. They want to see real change, share hardships, celebrate wins, and pray for each other.
So in this next season, we’re cultivating a living community of practice to find and form people ready to help without hurting.
This begins with an introductory pathway, rooting everyone who comes to Chalmers in God’s big story of making all things new. Members of the community will be given clear journeys from there, connecting them to action groups around specific regions, sectors, or problems where they can work together with others who share their passion, find additional training, and find co-laborers as they walk with those on the margins.
And we want to see thousands more join us in this way—not just ministry veterans, but Christians just beginning their journey into poverty alleviation work at their church or through a volunteer role.
As this community grows into a movement of people committed to transforming their communities and the people around them, we might just turn the world upside down together. Are you in?
