Dr. Desiree Segura-April
Director of Curriculum & Training
Dr. Segura-April has a passion for growing alongside God’s people and creating collaborative learning environments where everyone brings their knowledge and expertise “to the table,” and new knowledge is constructed together. Desiree is a creative and innovative adult educator with 16 years of experience in developing and facilitating courses, workshops, and trainings and 20+ years leading teams of ministry leaders and volunteers. In designing curricula and trainings, she utilizes participatory methodologies and seeks to connect solid biblical and academic research and theory with practical tools for ministry.
Desiree has lived and served as a missionary in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic, and trained pastors and laypeople in multiple Latin American countries. She has served as a children’s pastor in the U.S., on international teams, and as a Lausanne Catalyst, networking among many different churches and organizations.
Dr. Segura-April holds a PhD in Intercultural Studies from Asbury Seminary and has served as a seminary professor at several graduate schools. She is married to Dr. Osías Segura, serving together as missionaries and in Christian academia throughout their marriage. Her most important role, however, is as mother to the most amazing pre-teen on the planet (she realizes she might be a bit biased). With her family, she enjoys watching her son play soccer and basketball, going for walks, cooking food from all over the world, watching movies, and reading book series out loud together.
