Somebody asked me last week, “What makes for a really great day for you at the office? When do you feel really excited about your work?”

Learning in Rwanda: Connecting Theory with Practice by Will Kendall

Sitting in the shade of a tin-roofed mud hut, Rosalie strikes the figure of one who has witnessed many things; her smile reveals the wrinkles of both age and toil. The widowed mother of five, Rosalie’s right arm hangs limp due to a bullet that pierced her flesh during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Rosalie knows a lot about suffering and hardship, but this is not what she chooses to share with me early this July morning. Instead, she speaks about hope and empowerment, of reconciliation and provision.  Read Full Article »


A Different Type of Classroom in Tanzania by Rachel Miedema

Mama Mudy is a nominally Muslim woman who claims to believe in Jesus but does not have the courage to convert to Christianity, as it would trivialize her marriage to a Muslim man. Mama Mudy supports herself and her only son without much help from her husband. Struggling to survive, she has endeavored to start over ten small businesses, including selling perfume, boiling peanuts, and selling fabric, but she has faced many challenges along the way. She never gives up though. I have never known anyone who is as innovative and determined as Mama Mudy. Read Full Article »


Jobs, Money and Jesus: The Gospel in Inner-City Memphis by Michael Rhodes

When Steve Nash first met Clive Hamilton, Steve was in the early stages of starting an inner-city ministry that would target the Cleaborn and Foote neighborhood, one of the poorest urban neighborhoods in America. Clive grew up in Cleaborn homes and followed in the path of most of those around him, a path that led to gangs, drugs, violence, prison time, and eventually a gun shot wound that nearly killed him.
